Mary Beth Livermore

STYLIST / MAKEUP ARTIST

WHERE DID YOU RECEIVE YOUR FORMAL SALON/SPA EDUCATION?

Here at Hair Fusion! I have a Bachelor’s degree (BFA) in Fine Art from the University of Colorado, and have worked as a makeup artist for 10 years before moving to Durango. I wanted to officially have a license with my name on it so that I could do everything- hair, makeup and styling.

WHEN/HOW DID YOU BEGIN WORKING FOR HAIR FUSION?

In 2010 I moved to Durango and was a duel citizen here at Hair Fusion. I was working as a makeup artist primarily with brides and photographers while earning the practical hours to receive my Colorado Cosmetology License. I loved the women here so much, that I have been able to build a wonderful clientele to stay, and I have worked side by side with these incredibly talented people here at Hair Fusion for six years!

WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY and/or FAVORITE SERVICE TO PROVIDE?

As an advanced Curl Inspired Stylist, my love and obsession with shaping naturally curly hair is the best part of what I do every day. As a makeup artist, the challenge of making a beautiful bride feel her very best on her wedding day is an honor and a gift to be included in.

HOW DO YOU KEEP LEARNING/PROGRESSING YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE?

Every day I meet new challenges, and very much consider myself to be a life long learner. I love following the inspiration found on social media to keep trying new techniques and tricks in styling. The technology of cosmetics is infinitely changing. There is always something new to try! I just returned from the Devachan Academy in Los Angeles where I attended a three-day, hands on, curl specific class that blew my mind.

WHAT WAS THE PIVOTAL MOMENT FOR YOU, PROFESSIONALLY? WAS THERE AN “AHA” OR OTHERWISE IMPACTFUL MOMENT ALONG YOUR JOURNEY?

At my very first cutting and curl lab experience, I was taught an intuitive way of watching how a curl falls and moves, and cutting with that movement. It is like a sculpture! In my very visual way of learning and understanding, I left thinking, “Wow! I get it,” and suddenly the world made sense. Every thing just fell into place, like I had just discovered this was what I was meant to do. I became perfectly aligned with my goals and passion, to really do something I love.

IF YOU’RE STRANDED ON AN ISLAND AND CAN ONLY BRING THREE THINGS, WHAT DO YOU BRING?

I would bring good music, mascara, and a camera.
